CPD 2 in 2015- Demonstrations

On May 23rd, we held the second CPD for 2015. It was more of a show and tell, rather than a demonstration or lecture from us mentors. Each of the 15 schools had to conduct a 20 minute presentation over a particular topic. Some schools presented vocab, while others did language arts, grammar, etc...

Nilam competition

When springtime rolls around, it becomes competition time in Malaysia. All districts and states hold competitions over various subjects taught in school. Kim, Todd and myself, as well as our colleagues Maureen and Lynne from Pasir Gudang and Kulaijaya, were asked to be judges for the English NILAM state competition held at the BTPN in Johor Baru on March 30th. NILAM is a reading program in schools in which students are given points and rewards based on how many books they read during their primary and secondary school career. The top students from years 6 and Form 5 were chosen from each district to compete in this 3 day reading competition. The winner will be sent to represent Johor in the national competition.

Six Thinking Hats

In today's lesson, Teacher Mima at Sk Tampoi used 3 of the 6 thinking hats and had students brainstorm various responses to the questions written on the board. In groups, students wrote on their whiteboard how they would react to various scenarios. This activity encouraged students to work together and think of creative responses. 

March 2015 Reading CPD

Happy (belated) 2015! Our first CPD for the 2015 school year was held at SK Taman Tampoi. Our lessons today were all over differentiated learning. Todd, Kim and I, each had various activities that teachers could have incorporated within their daily reading lesson. I did HOTS/ LOTS and DeBono Thinking Hats. Todd had mystery stories and sequencing; and Kim discussed Peer Assisted Learning.

September Workshop

What an amazing day! Today's lesson focused on improvisation and drama. Needless to say, our teachers were starring like Hollywood Oscar winners.
